Dr. Hermann did amazing on my lift. I had one breast reduced and a lift on both. It’s been three months and I absolutely love it. Tummy Tuck Recovery What to Expect After an Abdominoplasty
Patients should expect some swelling and bruising after a tummy tuck. This is normal and is easily managed. Dr. Hermann will prescribe pain medication to ensure you are as comfortable as possible.
Exercise, housework, and physical activity will need to wait for a while. However, we encourage light walking for short distances to improve circulation and avoid complications during your recovery.
To improve blood flow, expedite healing, and improve results, Dr. Hermann will have you wear a compression garment for several weeks after your abdominoplasty.
Your recovery depends on how extensive your abdominoplasty was, how quickly you heal, and if your job involves manual labor. If you have a desk job with no heavy lifting and are healing properly, you may be able to return to work in a week or two.

Liposuction
While a tummy tuck is designed to remove excess skin from the abdomen, liposuction is performed to remove excess fat from specific areas of the body. Some patients choose to undergo abdominal liposuction to eliminate pockets of fat that have not responded to diet and exercise. Others choose to have liposuction performed on other areas of the body, such as the thighs, flanks, hips, buttocks, or upper arms.
Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is another procedure that is often performed with tummy tuck surgery. After pregnancy or weight loss, many patients find that the breasts become smaller in size. With breast augmentation, Dr. Hermann can place saline or silicone implants to increase the size and improve the shape of your breasts.
Breast Lift
Just as the breasts can become deflated after pregnancy or weight loss, they can also begin to droop. In cases of mild sagging, implants may provide a small lift. However, more significant drooping requires a breast lift procedure. During this surgery, the breasts are lifted, the skin envelope is smoothed, and excess skin is removed. The areolar-nipple complex can also be adjusted. For some, the areola and nipple are moved up to a more youthful and natural-looking location. The size of the areola can also be reduced if it is naturally large or became enlarged due to pregnancy or weight gain.
Thigh Lift
After significant weight loss, patients can develop excess skin on the thighs. The amount of excess skin can vary in severity and location on the thighs. That is why Dr. Hermann offers several thigh lift techniques, including the inner, mini, bilateral, and medial thigh lift. With these approaches, he can tighten excess skin to improve your comfort and appearance.
Arm Lift
When patients lose weight in the upper arm, it can result in excess skin that droops from the undersides of the upper arms. This can make patients feel self-conscious unless they are wearing long-sleeved shirts. With the upper arm lift, Dr. Hermann can make an incision in the armpit to tighten small amounts of loose skin. If patients have more significant hanging skin, the incision extends down the inner part of the arm as far as the elbow. This enables Dr. Hermann to tighten and remove an appropriate amount of excess skin to produce contoured arms that look good in all types of clothing.

Will scarring be visible?
The incisions that are made during surgery are just above the pubic bone. This means that any resulting scarring will not be seen when wearing a bathing suit or underwear. Still, the incisions will result in a scar, which will become less noticeable with time. In the months after surgery, the incision appears red. By a year after surgery, it becomes far less noticeable and looks like a flat, white line.
Are there any alternatives to a tummy tuck?
When patients have small amounts of loose abdominal skin, they may be good candidates for BodyTite. This minimally invasive treatment uses radiofrequency energy to tighten the skin and remove extra fat. It does require small incisions, through which a small cannula is inserted to remove small amounts of fat. Unlike liposuction, this approach also heats the skin, encouraging collagen production and tightening. However, BodyTite doesn't produce as dramatic of results as tummy tuck or liposuction.
How much weight will I lose after a tummy tuck?
Although a tummy tuck isn't a weight loss procedure, patients can expect to shed some pounds and go down to a smaller pant size. This is because excess skin is removed. Patients who undergo a full tummy tuck and abdominal liposuction could lose up to 10 pounds and go down a couple of pant sizes. Of course, the amount varies depending on the extent of your treatment plan.
