Dr. Hermann: Juvéderm is a product that is commonly called a filler and for good reason. It fills areas in the face.
There are two very common uses for Juvéderm. One is to increase the size or improve the shape of the lips. These are great procedures that sometimes get a bad rap. I'm sure you've probably seen people whose lips are overdone. I can assure you that if you come to see me for Juvéderm, that we will not allow that to happen. There are some excellent results that can be obtained in the lips without making them known to everybody that you've had them done.
The other use for Juvéderm is for filling lines in the face. Now this is different than Botox, which paralyzes muscles that cause wrinkles. The most common lines in the face that are filled in to improve their shape are the nasal-labial folds between the cheek and the oral area, and the marionette lines, which is the line in between the chin and the side of the cheek. The fillers in patients who have those lines can mask those to give a more youthful and rested appearance.
